Reminiscence Therapy refers to recollections of memories from the past through images, tangible items, discussion and music. For people experiencing Alzheimer’s or Dementia encouraging the act of reminiscence can be highly beneficial to their inner self and their interpersonal skills. It is about giving the person a sense of value, importance, belonging, power and peace. Life Story books, which is the most often used method, sometimes require Support for the person to read, hold and turn pages and, of course, cannot contain music.
Having the Life Story told utilising the client’s own photos, edited into entertaining storylines and their own choice of music on a DVD, or other digital device, means that it can be used to sooth and distract the person experiencing Dementia whenever wished without constant Support. Used regularly, they can benefit the memory and behaviour of the client, as well as acting as a very useful conversation starter for visitors. Professionals can be informed and reminded of our client’s true character.
Our CRB checked compiler would visit you to discuss the story you would want told and there and then scan your precious memorabilia in front of you so that you can be in control at all times. You would choose the music* you think expresses you best. Our compiler works on the enhancements, editing and compilation back in our office.
We send you a draft DVD for confirmation and when you are happy with the result we provide you with 5 finished, personally labelled DVDs.
The cost for the visit (within a 50 mile radius of Winchester), scanning 100 photos, draft DVD and 5 finished, labelled DVDs is £250.00.
If you would prefer to scan your items yourself, or you have them already digitised, we charge from £100 to edit, enhance and add the music* you wish. We then send you a draft DVD and 5 finished, labelled DVDs.
Each Life Story DVD we compile will be different so please contact us to obtain a more specific estimate of cost, there will be no obligation and it would be great to talk to you!
Memories UK are so keen to promote Life Story DVDs for those suffering with Dementia that if you are wishing to compile a Life Story for a loved one yourself, do contact us for tips that we hope will be of use to you. This service is brought to you free of any charge.
*For copyright reasons the music you wish as a background needs to be supplied by you.”
